Invented in the 1970's in Mexico, padel tennis is a racquet sport currently enjoying huge popularity throughout Spain and many Latin American countries, and is beginning to spread across other nations and continents.
Instead of a racquet with strings, as is the case with the majority of racquet sports, padel tennis players use a thick, perforated paddle to hit the ball, which looks like a tennis ball but is slightly less pressurized. The game is played on a small, enclosed court that is about half the size of a tennis court.
Generally played in doubles, padel tennis is easier to pick up and less physically demanding than other racquet sports like tennis or squash. Because of this, padel tennis is a wonderful sport and a healthy activity for people of all ages and skill levels.
